Jewish recipes carry stories: of who we are as cooks, as families, and as a people. Join us on the eighth and final night of Hanukkah for Schmaltzy, an evening of storytelling, gathering, eating, and celebrating the global mosaic of Jewish food.
Schmaltzy is an original storytelling event series from Jewish Food Society that invites brilliant guests to take the stage to share personal food-related tales—and then everyone tastes the dishes behind the stories. (It’s kind of like the Moth, but with pickles.)
NuRoots + Federation are thrilled to welcome Jewish Food Society to L.A.! As featured in the New York Times, on NPR, and in the Forward, Jewish Food Society is a women-led nonprofit organization based in New York that works to preserve, celebrate, and revitalize Jewish culinary heritage from all around the world. Through a vibrant digital recipe archive, dynamic community events, and the Schmaltzy podcast, they aim to provide a deeper connection to Jewish life and identity.
Your all-inclusive ticket covers everything: food, drinks, valet, story performances, and an unforgettable Hanukkah party.
Available in advance while supplies last! Sorry, no door sales.
Through November 29: $36 for one ticket + $54 for two
From November 30: $54 for one ticket + $90 for two
Vegetarian + dairy, kosher-style
The evening will take place in an open-air, combined indoor-outdoor space. We’ll have heaters, but please dress warmly—December in L.A. can be chilly! The address will be sent to confirmed guests only.
NuRoots, Federation, and Jewish Food Society are committed to gathering safely, and all guests must be fully vaxxed and show proof at the door with matching identification—entry will not be permitted without both. Masks are required inside per L.A. County rules. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns, if you need help paying for this, or if you need any accommodations to participate in this experience.
